How Do We Define Love?

I had the blessing, not burden, of having my father move in with my youngest daughter and myself, recently.  My mom was in the hospital and Dad chose to stay with us.  We would make daily trips to the near by hospital, and little by little, I could watch my dad's spirit lose it's spark, like a flame slowly being snuffed out.  He didn't seem to know how to tell me what was wrong.   But I know my parents well enough  to figure it out; it was love, or should I say, the absence of it; not being able to be with the woman he chose to marry 57 years ago.

Watching  parents grow older isn't easy, but what is harder yet, is watching them feel their soul mates pain.  Seeing the pain in their eyes, the concern, the 'love.'  I witnessed that all last week.  I watched my father's spunk, slowly disappear as each day went by.  He was missing that soul mate.

We went to the hospital every day, but one morning the roads were so icy, we chose to not make the trip.  By 9:30 that evening; we were on the road.  He missed his bride so much; he just had to be near her.  I remember so well, tucking the covers in around my dad, as he laid back in the recliner.   I then proceeded to help my mom retire.  I looked back at them and chuckled.  They asked what was wrong.  I said, "Nothing, it's just seeing you two next to each other in a hospital room."  But they both had smiles on their faces.  "Now" they could rest.

Yesterday I was able to take them both back to their own home.  I saw their eyes just shine with delight.  They were in their simple, but quaint little home.  They sat next to each other on their matching recliners.  They complimented each other like a cup and saucer.  They were now complete.

This blog is to share music venues and all that goes along with it, but I had to share this, while it is still new and ingrained in my memory.  But, I did write a song for them on their 25th Wedding Anniversary, and it fits now as it did back then.

MARRIAGE MADE IN HEAVEN

VERSE 1     Seems only yesterday, I took your hand in mine.  And here we are today, love seasoned with time.  Heart to heart love beating, as one, no longer two.  It's been a Marriage Made in Heaven, since God Blessed me with You.
VERSE 2     We started out dirt poor, working side by side.  We had no earthly treasures, but we were rich in love and pride.  Never a regret - it's been a fairy tale come true.  A Marriage Made in Heaven, since God Blessed me with You.
CHORUS     A Marriage Made in Heaven, I wouldn't change a thing, of sacred vows unbroken, like the circle of this ring.  A Marriage Made in Heaven, each day love feels brand new.  It's been a Marriage Made in Heaven, since God Blessed me with You.
VERSE 3     Miracles of laughter soon filled our home.  Little packages from heaven with love knots tied as bows.  Reflecting on life's memories since the day we said I do.  It's been a Marriage Made in Heaven, since God Blessed me with You.
CHORUS (Repeat)
Like a Marriage Made in Heaven, yes, God Blessed Me With You....
